Position Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologist, the Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) assists in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, direct activities with students designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLPA serves students who have identified speech and language disorders and may have other disabilities as well.
Job Type: 10-month contract position
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, and swallowing abilities using standardized tests, observations, and clinical tools.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessments, including setting measurable goals and selecting appropriate interventions.
- Provide evidence-based therapy to address speech, language, and swallowing disorders. Implement techniques and exercises to improve communication skills and oral-motor function.
- Work collaboratively with families, caregivers, educators, and healthcare professionals to support the client's progress. Provide education and resources to promote ongoing development and generalization of skills.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of assessments, treatment plans, and client progress. Prepare reports and communicate findings with relevant stakeholders.
- Stay updated on the latest research, techniques, and best practices in speech-language pathology. Participate in continuing education opportunities and professional organizations.
- Advocate for clients' communication needs within the educational system and the community. Promote awareness of speech and language disorders and their impact.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree Speech-Language Pathology or qualifying degrees
- Delaware State license or eligibility for licensure as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
